Shirin Abu Shaqra
Shirin Abu Shaqra obtained with honors her MFA at the
Fresnoy National Studio for Contemporary Arts in France. Before entering the
film making activities, Shirin obtained a masters in history (2004) and a
Diplôme d’Études Approfondies (DEA) in political science (2006) in Saint Joseph
University Beirut (USJ). She worked for eight years researching socio-cultural
changes in Arab world at the Center for Modern Arab Studies (CEMAM – USJ). In
parallel she worked on several archival projects amongst which managing the
Ashkal Alwan plastic art association’s archives, the Arab Image Foundations
library and research center, and developing projects around euro-Mediterranean
music in the Anna Lindh Foundation (Alexandria). In 2006 she followed a
documentary film making workshop at the Arab Film Institute in Amman and
collaborated with artist and photographer Fouad Elkoury in his photographic
journal “On war and Love” which was exhibited in 2007 at the Venice Biennale
and published the same year at Editions Intervalles in Paris.
